yoga is a journey not a destination, find joy in your journey
I was born in Leeds and spent my early childhood in Derbyshire before my parents moved back to Suffolk and set up home in Felixstowe with me in tow.
I have a beautiful fur baby, a black cat called Walter who I rescued from the Blue Cross, he is the perfect fur baby who undoubtedly rules the house!
I have always enjoyed being active, having horses as young girl through to my early 20's, playing netball and later I was drawn to strength training. Most of my time is now spent sitting at a desk and the older I get the more I notice the importance of movement or, should I say how the lack of it can change how I feel.
I am passionate about the positive impact mindfulness and movement (no matter how small it may seem) have on our lives and love to share that with people looking to develop or grow a yoga practice.
When I first discovered yoga I was drawn to it for the physical practice but I soon discovered it was much more than just moving and stretching, one of the biggest influences in wanting to become a yoga teacher is seeing how diverse and accessible a yoga practice is.
I'm fascinated by the body and mind and as I started to develop a deeper yoga practice I began to understand how much a well rounded yoga practice can offer, physically, mentally and physiologically.
I've had periods in my life where I've suffered with physical and mental health challenges, there are many aspects of yoga that can help during those times and I'm passionate about helping people get those benefits.
Myth Busting
One of the most common misconceptions is a belief that in order to practice yoga you need to be flexible, this is not the case, it would be like saying you're too dirty to take a shower! One of best parts of yoga is being able to progress, where would the fun be if we were all perfect?
If you have a mind and body then you can practice yoga!
Your Practice
Whatever the reason for wanting to start your yoga journey it is something that will develop at its own pace. Everyone's yoga practice may look and feel different to each person, there is no right and wrong, better or worse. Even in a group class everything is still a unique experience to you.
My Credentials
I completed the Foundation Course 1 with the British Wheel of yoga and I continued developing my journey via the British Wheel of Yoga teacher training who provide extensive training and an OFQUAL regulated level 4 certificate qualification. As well as offering a modern and in depth approach to their training programs the British Wheel of Yoga are the UK governing body for yoga teaching standards who offer regulated training courses and work closely with various governing bodies (like sport England) to ensure the highest training standards are met. Yoga explores a lot both physically and physiologically so accessing the right training is important to me.
I have a personal interest in anatomy and neural responses which I like to transfer into my teaching style, my focus is being able to offer inclusive yoga to help with stress and build a better connection to our mental health as well as encouraging our physical body to remain strong to keep us active for as long as possible.
Having experienced a loss in movement myself I appreciate how our lives can be impacted through injury or ailments, it has given me more passion in understanding how to keep ourselves strong.
